I want you to get a diary. It doesn’t matter if you’re starting it from the middle of the year. Organisation is key if you want to get you’re life in check. From today, keep note of your day to day life i.e. appointments, deadlines and such. Also set yourself mini targets every month. South London wasn’t built in a day!
Bite-size goals are easier to achieve and will eventually lead to bigger and bigger hurdles being challenged and won. Be specific about what it is in life you want to pursue and write down exactly what it is you need to do to get it.
If it’s to be debt-free and pay of all your debts then make step by step notes as to just what you need to do in order to get the ball rolling. You could start by getting them consolidated or highlighting where you can cut down on your spending (maybe getting your hair and nails done every fortnight ain’t a good look, especially when there’s only eggs and off milk in your fridge!).
Maybe your dream career seems a million miles away and simply unattainable. It only appears this way because you know clearly what you want but you are not actively pursuing it. You’re making the mistake of leaving it to chance and fate. The problem with thinking like that is you forget that life is a game, so in order to be a fully paid up member of the team you have got to be a player.
Change the way you think ladies.
If you’re one for the constant excuses, kill it! Excuses are just a way of keeping you trapped in your comfort zone, a justification for repeated failure.
Step 1 Not all of us are cognitive minded. In fact some of us are better at being creative. Others may enjoy roles that involve physical exertion. Discover what it is in life that makes you tick and write it down. Can you see yourself enjoying a career out of your chosen path? Can you see it making you happy in the next 3, 7 or 10 years? Write down a list of what you’re good at. Not necessarily your qualifications, but your life skills. Maybe you’re a good listener or have a fine eye for detail. Perhaps you love kids or you’re a strong leader. Maybe you know how to put a banging outfit together or you’re excellent in speaking in public. All of these are potentially skills that can enable you to forge a career out of doing something you truly desire and can do with a smile on your face.
Step 2 Write down and highlight all the negatives that stop you from moving forward. This could be a person like a boyfriend or friends/family, a lack of self-belief may be your Achilles heel or maybe you think of every reason as to why you cannot do something instead of the reasons why you can. We all have our comfort zones and sometimes breaking out of these can be more difficult than it seems. When these are highlighted and all negative connotations are dealt with individually, it becomes much easier to pinpoint and eliminate the negatives that are holding us back from moving forward.
Step 3 How about believing in yourself and your capabilities? Don’t watch no face! People will criticise you for your determination. That’s because you’ll be one step closer to achieving what they haven’t had the balls to go for themselves. Whoop whoop!
These ideas are simple. Make small changes and think positive. I’m not trying to fool up your heads and make you believe that by reading and following this guide you’ll suddenly turn into Rashida Branson or Billina Gates, but small ants can move mountains (well they actually can’t but you get me?).
